Elaine Petrone learned about pain -and pain relief- the hard way. She was on her way to realizing her dream of becoming a professional dancer and choreographer when she suffered a leg injury that led to debilitating chronic back pain. She tried every kind of conventional therapy, from orthopedists to chiropractors. Nothing worked, and most experts recommended that she stop dancing. As her leg withered to half its former size, she desperately sought out alternative practitioners. Some were dancers, others were students of Elsa Gindler, a teacher in Germany who understood the power of body awareness to release muscle tension and restore health and well-being. Elaine began incorporating what she learned from others with her own reading on reducing muscle tension, including sources going back a hundred years. Eventually, she combined all that she had learned from her experience healing herself and hundreds of others into the Elaine Petrone Method.
For the past 30 years, Elaine has taught extensively to groups and individuals interested in pain relief as well as stress reduction, post-operative recovery, and body awareness. She has taught and lectured to physicians, physical therapists, and psychotherapists on her findings; researched lower back and upper body pain at Mt. Vernon Hospital, New York; and been involved with post-operative recovery programs at the Rehabilitation Center of Southwestern Connecticut. She is currently program coordinator of the Health and Fitness Institute at the Tully Health Center, Stamford, Connecticut. She has also developed a national certification program in ball therapy that she teaches in Stamford.
The Elaine Petrone Method has been featured on television including QVC, Lifetime, Crook & Chase, The Gayle King Show; on Fox, NBC and ABC News; and in numerous national magazines, including Fitness, Vogue, Woman's Day, Glamour, Redbook, Self, American Spa, Elle, Town & Country, and Harper's Bazaar.
